Mrs. Clay CCC-SLP
Hello and welcome to Central Elementary!
I have had the opportunity to learn and work with the families and teachers at Central Elementary for eight years now. I received my bachelor's degree and master's degree from the University of Nebraska Kearney and I am a certified Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) with the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA). I am fortunate to work at Central everyday during the school week with students in every grade.
My role is to ensure that students understand language and are able to express themselves with their teachers and peers. A child's ability to express him or herself looks completely different with each student therefore my services are often individualized to each student I work with. Some students need to learn and practice how to articulate specific sounds while others struggle with organizing their thoughts to express themselves orally or in writing. I also work with students that need to learn how to communicate using pictures, sign language, or speech generating devices. Social language, play skills, and self regulation skills are also an important part of my lessons. My goal is always, independent communication, and I believe that everyone can communicate. It doesn't always look the same for everyone but every gesture, action, or vocalization communicates something, we just need to listen. During the school day you may find me in my classroom working with students in small groups, in the hallway working with speech students, or in the classroom working alongside our Central teachers in small writing groups. I love the diversity of my job and problem solving. I love to learn new techniques and challenge myself to find new therapy strategies.
I live in Kearney with my husband, Tyler, and our three children, Emmett, Austin, and Eloise. We love to spend time outdoors with our golden retriever, Russell.
Please feel free to contact me anytime.
